LandArt '09 | Cultural Revolution

Artistic Residence | Day 28
LandArt '09 | Cultural Revolution

A small cultural revolution is what happened in these lands of China. Today, with the work completed, it shows the power and the impact that art can have. When finally everything was finished, the population’s visit was received; we can feel these past weeks effort was worthy.

The party has started! The workshop is finished and the festivities began!

During the morning there was still some stress to have the work completed on time. Those, who had already finished, took some time to go to the city for their last shopping. Followed by lunch, with the workers, in the future Artists’ residence building.

At 19 o’clock the concert given by the Angel Duma began, followed by a curious fashion show presenting the future clothes of the Tea House employees. Michel Batlle also had the opportunity to paint the models’ faces. It was a great party environment where artists and villagers joined together. Sadness was felt in the eyes of some local Chinese artists’, as this fantastic experience, both cultural and social, had come to an end.

But art is magic, this beautiful form of communication is magic, because we know artists are gone, but leaving their pieces behind, regardless of the time these can last. Frederic Coustols is proud, for he sees part of his dream achieved - to be able to leave on this village an excellent artwork.

Both Sara and Tim were able to finish their work on the final moments, as Portuguese tradition tells.

Marina Carvalho also ended her work just in time, because yesterday there was a setback, the cable suspending her 730 pounds work yielded. This morning she had to go to town in the search of a tougher cable. Operation successful, but unfortunately we will only have the opportunity to see pictures tomorrow as well as to see the rest of the party due to the late hour it took place.

Maria Coustolds, as mentioned before, will only finish her snake later.

As for the three buildings under construction, only the Tea House is completed, following are the other two, at an accelerated pace of completion.

And so it came to an end, this wonderful workshop that will be remembered by all.

Tomorrow, Sunday, it is a day of rest for everybody, and a day for artists to prepare for the return to their origin countries.
