LandArt '09 | Day 04
Artistic Residence | Day 04
On the fourth day of the project, Land Art '09 team was invited to attend to the 3rd day Mao beloved family member’s funeral. Chinese people do not believe in life after death, so they perform a ceremony that lasts 3 days, consisting in a huge farewell party. The dragon is used in all kind of ceremonies, in order to ward off negative spirits.
During the afternoon, the team climbed up Guan Yin Mountain, goddess of the earth and the people, in order to observe all the territory where the Land Art project will rise
The ride continued for two hours through a path carved by the passage of animals. There is no place like this in the world - it almost seems like a drawing in real size - Jiu Xian is an earthly paradise.
The tour ends at a family cemetery, which overlooks to haven, linking life and death forever.
The days go by and the admiration for Jiu Xian, China, the Chinese people and DaST’s (Design a Sustainable Tomorrow) project is higher. No one can stay indifferent.
Tomorrow the action starts. After discussing the various proposals and a thorough analysis of the intervention territory, the artists are prepared to produce. The temperature is low, the challenge is great, as great as everybody’s enthusiasm. Conceptual cooperation has been enormous, now they feel ready to begin their contribution to DaST.
